Welcome to Adventureland. Here, you'll find the first animated characters in
Disneyland as well as the first audio-animatronic characters. Not to be
outdone, Disneyland also has the most inventive roller coaster/funhouse ever
imagined here. And thanks to Fastpass, you won't ever have to wait in
horrendous lines here.
 | Entering Adventureland
 | The sign has been there since the park opened,
but looking up at the Adventureland sign, (as is true with
Frontierland), you're given ample warning that you're entering
another world. Come on in. |
|
 | Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room

 | This was the original audio-animatronic
adventure. Still showing much the same show as it did when it first
opened, I enjoy this for the many bad, bad jokes. As such, this
provides quite the introduction to the guest about to experience the
Jungle Cruise. My childhood memories include knowing that a storm
had struck outside. Such was the magic of Disneyland. |
|
 | The Jungle Cruise

 | Was there ever a punnier place to be? My favorite
joke that I never hear anymore: approaching the lions gathered over
a zebra, my tour guide reports, "This illustrates the first law of
survival in the jungle. Don't be the zebra." |
|
 | Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Forbidden Eye
 | I enjoyed this one more when I was younger. Any
more I find myself just hanging on. This ride, when it was built,
represented an entirely new type of ride--one where forward and
always moving were not requirements. |
|
 | Tarzan's Treehouse
 | This is a re-imagining of the Swiss Family
Robinson treehouse. To some extent, it loses the magic for those of
us old enough to remember the Swiss Family Robinson movie, but the
images here, notably, the entry path, are magical and fresh.

|
 | Dining
 | Tiki Garden: At the entrance the the Enchanted
Tiki Room, you'll find a pineapple lover's delight. At the counter,
they serve pineapple spears, pineapple juice, pineapple whip (soft
frozen pineapple treat) and pineapple floats (pineapple whip
floating on pineapple juice). |
 | Bengal Barbecue: The tight crowds have the effect
of keeping me away from here, but the kabobs are fantastic.
|
|
 | Shopping
 | Much of the street here is ripe for shopping. As
you enter Adventureland from the Hub, the Bazaar is the first shop
and offers a wide variety of merchandise. The South Seas Traders
shop is next door and physically attached (why not just call it a
single shop?) offering Hawaiian themed products. Next comes the
Indiana Jones souvenir shop which is also just a continuous walk
through the shop. Across the way, next to the Jungle Cruise, is the
Tropical Imports shop which has a product line that is less dressy
and more playful. |
